- Scientific Name :Acacia arabica
Habitat:
The tree grows throughout the dry regions of India.
Morphology Description (Habit):
The tree is 5-20 m tall with dark coloured stems and fissured bark. It exudes a reddish gum. The leaves are bipinnate, flowers are golden-yellow in color and the pods are constricted, hairy and whitish-grey in colour.

Phytochemistry:
Its main components include tannins and gum. Quercetin, gallic acid, (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, (-)-dicatechin and (+)-leucocyanidin gallate have been isolated from its extract.
As per Ayurveda:
Rasa (Taste) : Astringent
Guna (Property) : Heavy, rough and clear
Veerya (Potency) : Cold
Vipaka (End Result) : Pungent
Pharmacological Actions:
As per Ayurveda, Baboola is Kaphapittahara. The primary pharmacological actions of this therapeutic tree are summarized as under:
Periodontal Health :
i. Possesses significant anti-plaque1 and anticaries activities.
ii. Efficiently inhibits gingivitis and is extremely recommended for routine oral care.2
iii. Effectively combats periodontal pathogens.
Digestive System:
i. Potent antioxidant and hepatoprotective.3, 4
Endocrinal System :
i. Exerts significant antidiabetic activity.5, 6
Cardiovascular System:
i. Helps lower cholesterol and triglycerides as well.5, 6
